National Program on Food Production

When observing how this programme could contribute to developing the school garden and environment in accordance with the learning process, it is identified that considerable extents of land resources remainunder-utilized in a number of schools nominated as Sustainable Development Schools.  Accordingly, the National Programme on Food Production has identified that there is basically a high potential of such land being developed agriculturally and in aneco-friendly manner. All in all it is expected to utilize the said land resources more ambitiously and productively under agricultural consultation and to expand product units as income generating centres in schools and have those units continuously operated by the schools themselves with the earnings generated by such units.

Although a number of projects have been put in place to encourage private farming and entrepreneurs, only a very limited investment has been made in any collaborative economic and productive activity launched targeting student community.  This is also expected to attract the contribution of young generation towards agricultural sector.

Creating successful agro-entrepreneurs in the country in the future whilst studying the mutual relationship between environment and agriculture may be pointed out as a long-term target of this programme.
